'To Design is much more than simply to assemble, to order, or even to edit; it is to add value and meaning, to illuminate, to simplify, to clarify, to modify, to dignify, to dramatize, to persuade, and perhaps even to amuse.'

Fantastic.

As I searched the internet for good package design ideas, I stumbled upon this:

My identity has been reduced to a bright red tampon brand.

Neato.

"Midwest Pour:" a project for Critical Frameworks

Glue Pour
Vancouver, Canada
December 1969
The Original

Done by Robert Smithson, an Earthworks artist of the early 60s and 70s.
I chose to recreate a modern day food version of "Glue Pour" using prime midwest characteristics.

Meat and Cheese.

I chose this duo because I feel as though I am constantly reminded of them living as an almost vegan living in the midwest. Furthermore, I find that most of these products available to buy are of poor quality. The cheaper it is, the worse it is, and the more you get of it. For the meat, I bought 6 lbs of ground beef, mixed it (with my bear hands) in with two eggs and 8 crackers and baked it for about 5 hours. The 6lbs of meat was $12. For the cheese, I purchased a brick of notorious Velveeta "Cheese" Dip. The Velveeta weighed 1lbs and cost $6.

My house stunk of pure dead cow meatloaf for a day and a half. My clothes stunk. The furniture stunk.

Shortly after I was in the classroom to preform the piece, I poured the 'cheese' over the cone-shaped meat mound and watched. To no surprise, the Velveeta slowly dripped down the meat mound.

What did surprise me, however, was how quickly the Velveeta cooled and hardened on its way down.

My roommate later commented, "Velveeta, just a few molecules away from plastic."

I plan to use that later on in life for an advertisement. Thank you Aly.

Portland, Oregon

My roommate and I went to Portland because she had an interview for grad school at Pacific University.

She went for the interview. I went for VooDoo Doughnuts.

Yum.

PaperFood: le projet finale

Probably invested somewhere around 30 hours into this.

It was fun, it was frustrating, it was demeaning, and it was educational... The perfect package?

PaperFood: photographing the actual food

For my packaging class, we had assignment to create food out of paper.

Since the deviled egg has always amused and interested me, I chose the ever so ambitious project.

Below are homemade deviled eggs that I photographed. The paper food shall follow.

UPDATED resume

After many hours of InDesign, voila. Get me employed.

This most recently updated resume is 42x60 picas. I placed a beige background beneath to give an idea of what an earth tone paper might look like when it comes time to print. Many would agree - it has come a lonnnnnnng way.

the Mirror Face

I don't care what anyone says - every woman has one. It's that "I'm sexy" distortion we do to our facial features when primping in front of a mirror.  It could be a simple pouting of the lips to a subtle squinting of the eyes to the rare scrunching of the face. I have seen good mirror faces and I have seen ugly mirror faces but I am at the point where I have seen too many mirror faces. While I'm driving - women looking in their rear-view mirrors, making a mirror face. When I'm walking to campus and pass any building that emits a reflection - there is a chick doing what? Making a mirror face. Drives me up a wall. I will do a shout out (and by shout out, I mean a sluggish murmur) to the women who have a subtle, almost nonexistent mirror face: I thank you for ability to look in the mirror and feel no obligation to be a face-contortionist. The mirror-facers envy you.

Resume

We all remember this piece of work. Jeeeeezus...

iHmm...

My dad told me imagination is more important than knowledge. Then he told me Albert E. said that.

I agree with that.

iAstrology

Who calls the shots on adding and subtracting astrological signs? Scientists? Astronomers? Politicians?  Honestly, this new Ophiuchus that they are politely shoving in between Scorpio and Sagittarius is sort of unwelcome. I'll be honest though - I'm salty because I loved being an Aquarius. I felt like it really worked for me and identified with me and I am not quite ready to pack it up and move into Capricorn. My birthday is coming up and it's not gonna feel right if I'm not bearing water.

Logos I looked extremely hard for:

The assignment was to capture logos. Any logo. All logos. So I photographed things around my house... Everything has a logo, so it was difficult to pick and choose the 'good' ones. I wanted to take interesting photos too, so I set up a scene for most. My favorite one is the Odell Brewery logo. So nice and organic in the shape of a leaf.

Leisurely Activité au choix

A 50th birthday invitation for my the very good friend of my parents'.

My Recent Project

The Division of General Studies at Saint Cloud State had asked me to create a poster, postcard/flyer, and the actual ticket for the event, so that is what you see below. Very exciting. I has been quite a process. Perhaps a 26 hour process...

Disney VHS covers - Revised

Aladin, Cinderella and Snow White would sum up the kinds of things I was watching when I was young. Today's reality television and how it is viewed by most of the population inspired me to recreate what I think kids today might be watching... and how that's not a good thing.

Armenian Whorehouse

Cinderella

Octomom & the Eight In Vitro Infants

This is the final product.  I think I'll keep them this way.
